Today is National Trails Day and is a time for people to shut down their laptops and venture out into the great outdoors.
June 4, 2016 is American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day®, the country’s largest celebration of trails. National Trails Day events will take place in every state across the country and will include hikes, biking and horseback rides, paddling trips, birdwatching, geocaching, gear demonstrations, stewardship projects and more.
I ventured to the northern part of Kansas City and took to the trails of Smithville Lake. It’s a pleasant trail with plenty of views of the lake. I only hiked 4.5 miles and wish I had more time to walk further. Long distance hiking is one of my bucket-list items. The idea of hiking all day has a zen quality to is. I dream about long distant hiking while following the blog of a woman named Erin Saver, or by her trail name, Wired.
Long distance hiking is one of my bucket-list items and the idea of hiking all day has a zen quality to is. I dream about long distant hiking while following the blog of a woman named Erin Saver, or by her trail name, Wired. She blogs about her long hikes, her cool gear, her emotions, and about the people she meets. I love that almost every day there is a long post and oodles of photos documenting her adventures.
Enjoy the outdoors, and happy Tails Day!
